PISCEAN 2010 Posts: 8092 Rating: (884)	In normal linear scales home zero or reference mark is provided at one end & after power on every timeslide needs to move to end for referencing. In distance coded scales, reference marks at provided at particular distances hence no need to move slide to end for referencing.

OvidiuNastac Posts: 419 Rating: (19)	Hi To be more exact, the distance coded linear scales don't have zero markers and the zero point is outside of the scale. It has two series of markers at 10 mm (usually) one of them is larger with 0,1 mm (usually) then the other. From that difference it is possible to determine the exact position of the axis. Therefor it is not need to go to the end of the scale to make the reference but only 10mm. Good luck Nit
