The SCADA system monitors the process. The CPUs are communicating on Ethernet with the SCADA system. The question is:in case of failure of one CPU for example,how can the technician knows tha this CPU or the other one was not working through the SCADA system?what is the method to configure this. I don't know how the SCADA system is configured because the question is from a friend. Thank you for your help

Ask your friend to examine the redundantCPUs. It could be a S7-400H setup, where you would find 2 dedicatedfiber-optic connectors and cables used on the CPUs to exchange the redundant data between the 2 PLCs. Or it could be a Software Redundancy setup, where the data is exchanged between the redundant CPUs using a Ethernet or Profibus-DP communication card in each rack (no specializedfiber-optic cables in this case). Each configuration has differentinternal registers stating which CPU is active, which one is standby and various status conditions on each Please advise what system is used. You're right,according to the informations given by my friens,the CPUs are S7-400H with fiber optic connectors. As he sais to me,the system is controlled by a SCADA, not WINCC but an other software. His question was: how to know exactly through the SCADA SYSTEM what CPU is running and what about the other one,because the system is on Ethernet it mean's that every CPU has it's own IP adress. So how can he know all the diagnostic of the installation in case of failure of the CPUs ,inputs/outputs cards,....etc Thank you very much for your help Mr Duchartier ! dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 1/14/2026 Posts: 12481 Rating: (2722)	Hello wahibo; This thread discusses the issue of S7-400H status to be transferred to a HMIO system, with 2 of the most respected members of this forum. /tf/WW/en/Posts/51244#top Umencho's post shows the way to use WinCC integrated functions and systemregisters to display the status information of a S7-400H system; this is less useful for you. Hamid Hosseini's reply discusses the use of SFC 51 (read record) in the PLC program, with the correct SSL (partial record list) and the status bits dedicated to a S7-400H system. Your friend could add this to the redundant CPUs' program, extract status information and recover it in his own SCADA system. Information on SFC 51 and SSLs can be found in the following manual (it should also be installed automatically with Simatic Manager on the programming computer): System Software for S7-300/400 System and Standard Functions Volume 1 and Volume 2 Note: in the download page you can select various languages in which the manual exists, including French, if that can be useful.
