From few days, Siemens release new PC adapter with new features "6GK1571-0BA00-0AA0"

A-Delivery Release for PROFIBUS PC Adapter USB A2

The Old PC adapter release from 2003 "6ES7972-0CB20-0XA0"

In many cases, it was a must to go to sites with PG instead of using laptop and PC adapter.

But the new PC adapter solved a lot of these cases now

let me tell some of these cases:

1. For CPUs that have configurable MPI/ DP port and you want to use it for profibus network at baudrate greater than 1.5Mbps. It is only possible to use old PC adapter for 1st installation.
   Thus because it supports profibus network up to 1.5Mbps.
   The new one supportsprofibus network up to 12 Mbps.
2. PDM
3. Firmware loading for S7-Profibus CPs.

It needs in some cases.

Basically if I need to make a choice (btw I have both) - PC adapter because it is more compact (dimensions are little bit smaller).

It's really a matter of taste. I'm personally like USB adapter, and it's really nice Siemens finally did 12MBit support. The only thing when CP5711 is more convenient is on communicating with devices, that don't output 24VDC on Profibus pins (like OP without PLC). Though there is a way around.

But frankly saying i'm using NetLink Pro (ETH) from Softing for over 5 years. I won't give any advertisement, but it would be really nice if Siemens implemented some of the options NetLink has.

Hmm, can't really say anything neither on USB version, nor on parameter download - maybe it has bugs

The option that was really useful (for me of course, for someone else it could be just weird add-on) - Ethernet version of adapter is able to work with different PCs and PLCs simultaneously.

Upd. on UMENCHO request.

Well, we used NetLink in our office as a gateway between office LAN and Profibus segment, which contained 5 PLCs. Few programmers were able to work with different PLCs on using single NetLink. I can't really say how much PG<->PLC connections are supported, but it was definitely tested for 4 connection.

Now we have 1 NetLink in our office and 1 for each team going on site.
