good day! I would like to ask your experties and help regarding hardware selection, the scenario is:

1. in a control room i have a control panel which has an S7-300 system with a CPU capable of profinet. note: this cpu's profinet port X1 is connected to a PC with a WINCC runtime system.

2. I have a field system which is near 100 meters away from the control room, and it has a lot of i/o's deployed.

3. I need to monitor all the i/o including the field system on real time and display the status on the runtime system.

my question is:

1. should i use an ET200M for the field system and connect it to the main CPU which is located at the control room using profinet?

2. if I use an ET200M, do i need an independent cpu for it? or is it not necessay?

your help will be greatly appreciated guys.

You can use a ET200M station for the remote I/O's.

Secondly theres no need for an individual CPU in the ET200M station(for the max number of I/O capacity for your CPU,check the CPU datasheet as well). All you need is an interface Module(IM 153-4HF) or the necessary Profinet interface module to interface it with the main CPU. Also note that since the distance mentioned is 100m which is practically ok,try consider repeaters inbetween if necessary.
