Redundancy on Ethernet/Profinet

Rishikesh Chaphekar Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Dear Sir, I want to use CPU400H redundancy on profinet/Ethernet. All Remote I/Os and Drivesshall be on Profinet. In this case I don't want to use frofibus for redundancy and the profibus port shall be used for Absolute Encoder only. Plesae confirm me the possibility of theabove configuration and links of technical information. Thanks

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 9/10/2025 Posts: 3049 Rating: (1062)	Hello Rishikesh Chaphekar I'm afraid to say that it is NOT (yet) possible to use Profinet as the redundant I/O Fieldbus for an S7-400H system and that you must use Profibus for this. Having said that, if the rumours are trueandall development goes to plan, S7-400H with support forredundant Profinet I/O stations will/may become available towards the end of this year (don't hold your breath though).

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	1) H-systems do not work with PROFINET - as fritz already mentioned. You cant even create PN network on CP443-1 inserted into H-system. 2) Regarding 1 you can refuse PN, keeping ordinary Ethernet functions. In this case communcation is done via S7-connection with user program switching between connections. Besides additional programming it has 1 more problems - it's slower then PN IO communication. 2a) Alternatively replace ET200S for ET200M (153-2BA02) with active bus module. Thus you can keep low-latency network but will require additional cabling and equipment. From H-system side you can implement connection via integrated DP-ports.

Rishikesh Chaphekar Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Now I will not use 400H CPU. The CPU selected in confg. is 414-3 PN/DP, which having inbuilt PN and TCP/IP ports. So is it possible to get the redundancy on CPU level with Sync module? I am not worriedon any one of Drive or RIO communication (profinet) failed. Can I use this configuration?

If you dont need PROFINET and Ethernet is enough - then everything is easy - just configure S7-connections via ethernet and that's it! Perhaps you can connect your drives as PN IO Device to ET200S (configured as PN IO Controller), and ET200S to H-system via S7-connection.
