SBP and encoder without zero track

G.Konstantopoulos Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello to all, We are trying to connect an encoder without zero track (zero+, zero-) to a Masterdrive equipped with an SBP card. Therefore we wire according to plans the power supply for the encoder and A+, A-, B+, B- . We can read values from the encoder as we move the rotor but when we make a tacho test from the Masterdrive we end with fault 098 (Mld Tachof), value 6: A track signal is missing. Question: Is it possible to use the SBP with an encoder without connecting the zero track? Thank you in advance for your advice. Georgios Konstantopoulos

G.Konstantopoulos Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello Vijay Thank you for your interest. But remember: We are trying to connect an encoder to the SBP card and not to the CUVC directly. Therefore P130 should be 5. Otherwise you are using not the SBP but the CUVC as the interface to the encoder. And of course the encoder is wired to the SBP and not CUVC. But there is one comment that states "Most conventional pulse encoders can be connected to the SBP option board" and another that states "Most Pulse encoders have a Zero track", which would imply that facilities for encoders without zero track should be available. How have you configured the encoder i.e. P139 ? Have you confirmed your wiring is ok? Are all the bus terminating resistors on the board powered up (i.e. switches turned to ON) Cheers, Graeme

G.Konstantopoulos Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello Graeme, Thank you for your interest. I have managed to solve the problem by using another encoder which had zero track. I cannot be 100% sure but I think is not possible to connect an encoder without zero track to an SBP. I believe so because even in P139 when you set the parameters of the encoder you have to set channel1 and channel2. You have to. Channel 1 is A, A-, B, B- and channel2 is the zero track (unipolar or bipolar) In my configuration I used an HTL encoder with A,A-, B, B-, Zero+ and 0V (and of course Power Supply). For the SBP this means for channel1 : HTL diferential , channel 2: HTL unipolar. I have wired the Zero+ signal from encoder to Zero+ of SBP and 0V to Zero- of SBP The P139 was set like: 2102 (function diagram 256 explains how 2102 was chosen) Now my encoder passes the tacho test and works without issues.
