Hello, Masterdrive VC 6SE7032-6EG60-Z is working fine on profibus system 840DEfrom last 5 years,. Application is main spindle of lathe machine. All of sudden drive failed & message displayed as "Spindle drive fault". Checked the drive & observed heavy flash over inside drive on power semi conductor devices. Photo are attached for ready reference. AC input side 3NA3252, 315A HRC fuse links are provided for short circuit protection. When this fault has occured, main 1000 A ACB had tripped. My queries are as follows. 1. Why this flash has occured? No chances of external materail causing short on bus. 2. In case of short circuit inside drive main bus, no any 315 A capacity HRC fuse found blown off. Instead main DB panels 1000 A ACB was tripped. How this could happen? Thanks in advance. Hi Deep, I have a lot of "experience" (mostly bad) with this fault Please see attached pictures. We see this fault many times when our braking resistor (Normally mounted externally) became contaminated - check for Swarf etc. Once you disconnect the Braking Resistor from the Braking Chopper, you should be able to Megger it and check the resistance value is correct. Clearly, a short circuit on the Braking Module may also cause this fault. The PCB at the rear is the Pre-Charge card (PCC) and this rectifier is ALWAYS active when 400V is connected, obviously, when the voltage reaches a preset point, the main rectifier thyristors are energised and the small Pre-charge rectifier does very little. If a short circuit appears on the DC link, this rectifier will supply current via the Pre-Charge Resistor (Which as you can see from the pictures) can get very hot and cause secondary damage. Check that the resistor has not caused any unrelated damage. We actually relocated this resistor to the outside of the drive chassis. I see you mention the last 5 years has been ok, but did you have particularly bad storms, or electrical supply problems recently? I don't know why the HRC fuses did not clear before the ACB. Also, check the condition of your contactor, this can weld/damage. Another question, how is your contactor controlled (Do you use the Connector block X9 on the power supply for this purpose?) General observations are that the drive is very good at protecting against OUTPUT faults (i.e. motor side), but does not really manage input side faults very well. Best regards, Graeme
