TD 200 Character Set Error

After the last steb the TD datablock will be generated again. Download to plc and it should be working again. If not post the contents off the Td datablock here for us to investigate. Before regenerating is there any method to upload original content of TD200 without any loss of data( we are not having any backup or configuring data of TD200 ). Regards, Nijith

Perhaps some setting are changed on the display, check them aswell. If it was working and nowbody changed the program(datablock) some setting must bechanged in the display. Regards, Marcjan

Hi. CAUTION The device configuration and display messages are stored in Data Block of the S7-200 PLC. You could upload the PLC to have a copy of this configuration.. but wen you upload the Data Block, the user values are not included. There is no other way (from the PC) than creating a Status Chart to view these values to make a copy in a text file or spreadsheet. BUT you will have to know which memory areas to make a copy of. If you load the Data Block to restore the TD200 configuration, you will wipe all user settings! ----------------------------------------- Please check which version of the TD200 do you have. The startup message at power-up should tell you. I am not 100% sure.. bit I think the newer version you could set the character set on the device itself. Good luck! w

SIMATIC, Text Display (TD), User Manual, Edition: 06/2004, A5E00341992-01 It may be a good idea to have a look at that manual. Maybe it is as simple as setting the right language. Other possibilities can be looked at. You can manipulate the memory that determines the character set used. With an experiment I make a new program with Microwin. Using the TD200 wizard two configurations for TD200 V3.0 is created. First time I select GREEK and second time I use the standard type of character set. The changes can be seen in the data block.. 1>> VB22 'English $01$00$07' 2>> VB22 'English $01$00$01' So for the particular setup the character stored in VB44 chages from "$07" to "$01". If you change from the PC (in my case) VB44, I can change the character set. The problem is.. you have to find out in some way where the value is written for your TD200. There is possibly a way to modify the PLC memory without using a PC if you have the TD200C. This is shown in the 2nd part of the JPEG. For this I highly recommend you read the manual. There is nothing I could see that would explain what you describe. The cross reference did not produce any overlap memory. There is no reference to usage of indirect addressing. The only possibilities I can think of.. The PLC memory is getting corrupt from time-to-time The adress space is compromised from the TD200 side A memory module is inserted that over writes the memory. It would be helpful if you could crate a Status Chart and monitor what the values of the words VW0 to VW12. I would like to know if the values change from what was set.. VW12 is particularly of interest. Extracted from the TD200's DataBlock is the following set up: [code]VB0 'TD' // VB2 16#10 //Set Language to English, set Update to as fast as possible VB3 16#F1 //Set the display to 40 character mode; Enter key V3.1; Up key V3.2; Down key V3.3; VB4 40 //Set the number of messages VB5 16#00 //Set the Function Keys notification bits to M0.0 - M0.7, F-Keys configured to set M-bits VW6 34 //Set the starting address for messages to VB34 VW8 14 //Set the starting address for message enable bits to VB14 VW10 1234 //Global Password (if enabled) VW12 2 //Character Set = Latin 1 (Bold)[/code] I would suggest that you do the following.. Change the password to something else.. it reduce the risk of an opearator getting in settings of the TD200 where he should not be. Include in OB1 a move instruction.. 2 -> VW12.. it is a workaround but now you force the PLC system to use those settings. I do hope you get your thumb over that Gremlin of a problem. Good luck. w

(it has nothing to do with your current issue) --------- [1] Looking at the messages on the TD200 I see that the timer parameters are given the units of [ms]. I would suggest that the message use [s] as a unit. The TD200 make it possible to show an integer with a decimal point. Knowing if a 100ms base time or 10ms base timer is used, will dictate where the decimal point will be shown. [2] For your own purposes I would suggest that you create a symbol list. The INPUTS and OUTPUTS should be simple enough to get. Next the parameters that the TD200 makes available to you. From these you can make some simple network comments already. These commentary is small things, but already it will come a long way when the day comes that you have to go and fault find a problem. If I were you, I would not wait until the day you need the documentation. Believe me you will win many PR (public relations) point when you can sort out an issue quickly. [wink] just make sure your minimum call out rate is something like 3 hours and you do the job in 30min when you are called upon to sort out an issue.
