William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1204)	Hi guys, I have experience in using 3rd party panels. The panel I use is more than half cheaper than Siemens "Basic" panel. Siemens quality is a little better, but the functionality and memory is more on 3rd party panel. For the model I use, a type of scripting is also possible. AND bonus points for ability to also make network with motor drives. If the KTP600 (example) has more memory, my choice will swing back. But now I put in more work to get 3rd party panel working to the level I want. w

Navnag Platinum Member Joined: 11/21/2007 Last visit: 1/8/2026 Posts: 2327 Rating: (309)	We have experimented with HMI panels from "ESA" and "PRO-FACE" and "EXOR" Some of these had good features ( better fonts, better screen objects etc ) not available in SIemens ..... but finally switched back to SIEMENS for various reasons like : a) Although some of these HMI panels are cheaper - the configuration is more laborious ( They cannot be "Integrated" to start with ) and take more time to program and test. b) With at least one of the makes, we faced multiple touch screen failures. c)Many times these do notsupport all S7 protocols MPI / Profibus / S7 TCP/IP etc. alsoso not support a S7 data formats. c) Our team is trained on Siemens. Third party HMIs always require a new software Finally we are happy with Siemens HMIs and their limitations as they save a lot of programming and commissioning time for us. Cheers Navnag b) Sometimes

But sometimes (even these days more often) because you need to squeeze each cent from the project you select another brands cheaper ones. Yes, it is more difficult to program them and also to have a good support. As engineers we should know how to manage all that. This is the General Manager's mentality! We have been using Beijer e-panels and have recently migrated to their iX panels. The software to program the iX panels, is of the same quality as the TIA. It takes a long time to get used to, and just to heavy and difficult to use. I got a client asking for a AB panelview HMI with a S7 300 PLC, anybody have experience with this? Any other brands that are recommended, or is Siemens simply the best/easiest to use? We chose Beijer over Siemens in the past because of free software and the standard possibility of mirroring the screen through VPN and the ethernet connection. Hi Ton verra, I haveworked with HMI brand like GE Fanuc,Laur,Hitech,Delta,jetter and few more... But i want to define easiness term ,if we have good experience aboutany product /software that is by default become best/easiest,feature wise alsoeach HMi support different+/- point , In case of Siemens ,it has very good functionalitybutprogramming software is not free is a point.. and some brand like delta,Hitech,jetter...etccomes with free programming soft... VP
