cww Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi Again, I got Micro/Win and got the program off my UV tunnel project. Looks like they cleared the symbol table just for fun, but I'm rebuilding it. I don't think I'll have to replace the PLC or modules after all, but I do need to get online to track down some strangeness. The problem is that they have a drive using USS on one port and a 177 display apparently using MPI on the other (224XP). There is the D connector on the back of the display cable connector, but Micro/Win informs me there are multiple masters and my device (PPI cable?) doesn't support that. I got the program off by removing the USS cable and switching the PLC to halt, but to troubleshoot my problem, I need both connected. After poring through the alphabet soup in the manuals, I get the impression that I need a PC to MPI hookup. Since that will probably be expensive, and the manuals are old, I wanted to ask what is the latest and greatest and cheapest way to do this. Is it the old cable with the lump with the switches in the middle I vaguely remember or have they come up with usb or? Or am I missing something? P.S. I'm using an old Dell notebook.

cww Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	I am using a clone cable an associate had. it says merely USB to PPI Cable for Siemens Simatec(sp):^). It does work for PPI. I have no problem getting the genuine article you mention if that will let me solve this problem, I just don't want to get the wrong thing. There are so many and not much information about which will work in a particular situation. And there doesn't seem to be a way to determine exactly which protocol the display is using without looking into it's software, a whole nother story.

cww Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	I'll have to get the cable as the problem involves a change in the HMI that only sometimes gets to the drive. I need both the HMI and the drive hooked up along with a PC link so I can watch the tags and see who is dropping the ball and make changes. Both the HMI comms and the USS are somewhat occult and niether is complaining that I can see. That and the online view will make it much easier to fill out the symbol table.
