S7-1200 communication to Profinet drives

Abyrne Bronze Member Joined: 11/26/2008 Last visit: 10/20/2025 Posts: 101 Rating: (4)	I am using Step7 Basic s/w today for aproject.Iwant to use a 1214 CPUand want to connect it tosome Profinet drives. Is there any restrictions relating to communication to Profinet drives?

billwest Posts: 510 Rating: (120)	The current version of the 1200 can not function as a Profinet I/O controller or a Profinet I/O Device. Unfortunately you can not communicate with a Profinet Drive using the Profinet port on the 1200.

fritz Diamond Member Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 1/20/2026 Posts: 3054 Rating: (1062)	Hello Abyrne billwest is correct, Profinet I/O Controller functionality for the 1200's onboard PN port is however planned and expected to be released sometime next year (a Profibus DP Master comms module is apparently planned too as well as a DNP3 comms module, so stay posted but don't hold your breath for it).
