PC adapter USB USB 3.0 compatibility

sah676 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi guys, I have Step7 v5.5 installed on a Windows XP virtual machine, running in VMware on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop. I want to communicate with a CPU 315-2DP, using the PC adapter USB (MPI). I have used this setup successfully with an older laptop (also Windows 7 64-bit). I didn't even have Step7 installed on the host laptop. On my new laptop however, I can't establish comms. The only difference is that the old laptop had only USB 2.0, but the new one has only USB 3.0 ports. So, is the PC adapter USB compatible with USB 3.0? I have no option to install Step 7 on the host as it is 32-bit only. Anyone have any ideas?

See this article here for more details: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1025956. To enable the PC adapter inside your VM you can try a different USB port. USB 3.0 is usually with a blue part inside, where as USB 2.0 has a black part. If your Laptop has only USB 3.0 you can try an aditional PC-Card (like PC-Express to USB), that only supports USB 2.0. ...or finally wait for improved support for USB 3.0 from VMware. xnor

I have experienced the exact same problem and the solution for me was to set the ports to 2.0 within the BIOS.
