Dear Folks,

we have a customer that is more or less 2500 km far from our office with a machine with a 1214 and a KTP700 Basic.

He needs a small HMI modification but he does not have WinCC/TIA or anything.

I saw an USB on bottom of panel, is there anything we can do with it ? Or are there alternative methods for transferring the project without having a PG with TIA software installed ?

Ah yes yes Master, exactly like it was for WinCC Flexible.

But I just found now an article where it is possible to load the project in a USB pen and charge it in the panel using the menu "service & commissioning", then "Restore".

Big big problem: how can I create the file from my PC to load in USB pen ?

So if I have here another identical Basic Panel I can do this:

Load in my HMI the "new project".

Make a backup from the panel and save it to USB.

Send that file to customer which practically makes the inverse operation.

Is it correct, master ?

PS: Siemens could improve the mighty TIA with this function: it is faster than a pack and go where u need another laptop onsite with correct ethernet settings, etc... An USB is simpler...

I rather like your idea!

A partner of mine tried (with the help of local Siemens) to create a pack-and-go package for a KTP700. There was (so I am told) softwares that needed to be installed on the host PC which the customer might not have installed.

Siemens to could learn from {that US company} whose panels updates very well from a USB thumb drive. I could update software even though my PC's ethernet card was giving problems at that moment.

Yeah Will,

{that US Company} has  very smart way of updating the HMI. They does not have any Pack and go or other stuffs but just the smart USB way.

If Siemens will insert in TIA the ability of creating this "backup" then it's great, so we must not have the need of having a "mother HMI" always in office to create backups for customers...

Now I go back to one of {that US Company} PLCs that I am programming,and that really makes me nostalgic of my sweet sweet Simotion... :(
