we need to archive data (alarm&event ) more than default time of PCS7 as min. for 1 year. what should to consider for it?

as I know we need SIMATIC PCS 7 Process Historian.if am I correct, does we regard a separate station for installation process historian or it can be combined in one of the client?

if we have to consider a separate PC ,our option is just siemens IPC?

(be note that in our system we have 2 OWS,1 EWS as non client-server topology)

Yes, for archiving data for more than a year, you have to use the Process Historian.

For the Process Historian, you have to use a separat station (no OS client or ES allowed; but you can use the Information Server or Maintenance station on the Process Historian station.

Note, on the Process Historian Station you don't have WinCC.

You cannot buy the Process Historian without a product consultation and a special release by the product manager for Porcess Historian.

Hi,

how long you can archive your data on your OS is mainly depending on the disk space that is available on this stations.

But having big archives on the oS slows down the performance of the OS.

I would recommend to have an process historian if you need your data for more than 1 month.

Hi AutoGen,

When we choose a process historian, we do a calculation of memory requirements for process values, alarms,etc with respect the storage available/needed.

Process Value  = 63Byte (Average memory requirement for each archive variable). The following info will be stored on it. 1. TimeStamp, 2.Process Value, 3. Quality Code. ( A compressed process value is about 12Byte)

Alarm = 1024Byte (Average memory requirement for each alarm. The memory requirement depends largely on language used and the length of the alarm).

So here you approximate how much process value, alarm for your process vs how long you need it. According to that you will know, how much space required for your PH station. Sometimes batch reports also found sending to process historian - For this kind of application you need to consider the size your batch report as well on your calculation.

why do you calc with 1024 for Alarms? I always thought you have to calculate with 4096 bytes for this.

I think I have read this somewhere in the PH manual...

I think 1024 byte is average memory requirement per message,  And its mentioned it will vary with languages. 4096 bytes for all 5 standard languages. Yes its bit confusing, kindly see the attachment for your reference. calculation also showed in it.
