please i need help my project is to control plc s7-200 cpu 224 by wincc flexible runtime installed in laptop or pc the distance between the plc and the computer may be 45 meters so,

1- what kind of communication cable i must use for this distance rs 232/ppi or usb/ppi cable or mpi cable which one is better and not expensive 

2- available to use this cable direct or i must buy extra component ??

3- how to increase this cable distance because siemens cable come in 5 meters only please i need more details for this question ???

sorry i am new in programming 

according to you attachments this mean that usb/ppi cable will not work only re232/ppi and mpi cable is i am true ? but my laptop don't have rs 232 socket only usb how i will connect ?

what about the distance how to increase the 5 meter cable from siemens to 45 meters ?please clarify this with more details

if I can give addition to Ste useful post, in my opinion you can use USB/PPI cable without problems. This is only question of interface on PC side, if you have serial poert - use serial port, if you have USB - use USB port. That USB/PPI cable will use also serial virtual port so you can continue configure as is described in manual posted by Ste. You can join new DP cable, better with DP connectors on both sides as new transfer data cable between your USB/PPI cable (PC) and S7-200. You can connect your USB cable to Male connector of one DP connector, so you need one DP connector on long line with also Male connector. This is RS-485 serial line so with good cable you can be satisfied with your distance without problem I think. Also you will have terminators on both sides of cable, just in case.

you mean that i need profibus cable 45 meters (two wires) and rs 458 connector that will be fixed to plc unit thats fine

is there is no pc adaptor coming with the ppi cable this one will not used ??
