like Christoph said, but I don't see any OS, Siemens develop SW specification from you. If you have XP, no problem working with that Adapter directly via RS232 port. Question is, if it can connect to USB-RS232 adapter and working correctly. 1 pcs of that adapter I got too, will try make connection in Step7 v55 via some USB-RS232 converter, will post here. I think that connection in TIA portal isn't provided.

that my original Siemens PC adapter RS232 is like 972-0CA22 ???? hard to read, I'm using it 15 years. Tested on:

PG Simatic Field with real COM1

OS Win XP SP3

Step7 v5.5 SP3

Results:

1. via real COM1 no problem with connection to S7-300 CPU via MPI profile

2. via my RS-232 - USB converter (cheap no Siemens brand) connected to that PC adapter, selecting in PG/PC interface COM2 - NO PROBLEM.

Everything work correctly.

Edit: only update as Christoph said before, in WIN7 no chance select COM port, only USB connection.

i don't have a problem with any OS i can use xp, win7 .

the new laptop there is not rs232 only USB ports .

which operation System do you use?
since windows 7 SIEMENS  doesn't support this PC Adapter , the RS232 can't be used here.

A USB Adapter didn't solve this problem, and can cause a lot of new problems.

Here is better so buy a new Adapter with USB Interface.
