hi guys

you helped me to really know about system requirement that siemens automation software need and it helped me to choose among various laptops to buy,but now its really hard to choose between

two asus laptops that one has( 16G RAM and 1T HDD )and the other one has (12G RAM +1T HDD+128G SSD) and other specification in both of them is similar and laptop which has 128G SSD is a little expensive than the other one .

note that i am electrical engineering students and i am studying about siemens automation systems,instrumentation and sometimes about programming.

You are not very specific in your answer. That makes it extremely difficult to help.

Please think about the reasons why you think your current PC is keeping you back. Also consider that the requirement for Step7 V5 is different than V14 for example.

Learning a field of study can still happen effectively without the need for new tools (PC). This is what I would like to see you avoid until you have a "feel" for the discipline of automation.

There is nothing easier for strangers to tell you you need to buy the biggest and best. But the truth is that you may benefit more in buying some literature or visiting formal training.

Keep these thoughts with you as you guide us in this post to find your answers.

I have a 5th generation (mobile) Intel i5, traditional HDD, 12GB Ram for working with (for Siemens) Step7 V13 SP1 Update 9. Mainly S7-1200 and BASIC HMI.

My 3 year old Dell XPS I7 12MB RAM works just fine.  I expect it to be working fine for a few years more.

So about the same.  Memory is more important than processor for these applications.  I got the i7 for Autoacad.

I dont know if you bit the bullet and bought a laptop already but I was an engineering student and I know for a fact that you only need to worry about the graphics card being dedicated since in engineering courses you don't really see models and projects with a huge number of parts after all you are just a student. If you do however, a dedicated card like the 960GTX from NVIDIA seems pretty good and stable for solidworks.
