I am looking to see if anyone has any advice or tips on using Sm@rtAccess to generate a trend database via an html file similar to the example here: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/26331265

In the example Siemens uses the html pages to call an excel file that runs a vb macro to generate a csv database.

I am curious if anyone has run a similar setup with a SQL database call instead of routing through excel and a VB macro.

I am attempting to create a remote trending and support software to poll data off several networked TP177B’s with the Sm@rtAccess license. Other trending options are not available on the TP177B for export to the end user, and this is the only work around I can think of.

I have already programmed the Sm@rtService option for that model, however it would be difficult to get trending on that due to limited html processing though the web server on the TP177B. In theory, the Sm@rtService (local only) would be the light version and the Sm@rtAccess would be the heavy lifting option (I am programming it like SCADA light on html pages, master controller).

My real problem is extracting the trend into something useful for my clients; the TP177B does not support the CSV trending of the more advanced HMI's, so I am focusing on how to mimic that without too much trouble. I have the Soap option working for excel, but it requires an active tag update for excel and a good bit of IT work to setup the call. I figured though a database I might be able to avoid the client having to keep excel open, just internet explorer with a meta tag on a cyclic refresh.
