S7-1200 maximum IO devices exceeded.

ohernandez Posts: 5 Rating: (2)	Hi, I´m having some difficulties on my TIA project and I hope someone can help me on this. The device network has a 1215C AC/DC/Relay CPU, a couple of CM 1277 switches and twenty SIMOCODES PRO V PN; all connected under PROFINET IO. For programming all these devices, I´m using TIA Portal v14 but when compiling, it shows the following error: ¨The maximum permitted number 16 of IO devices has been exceeded by 4 IO devices¨ Reviewing TIA’s Help browser, some documentation and Siemens website, it really seems to be that the number of IO devices is limited, which I still can´t believe it. So, can anyone explain clearly what can I do now? Any suggestions? Are there any possibilities of adding any CP or CM to the network in order to increase the number of IO devices on the network? The limited number of IO devices, is it limited by CPU model? Regards.

Generally if we ommit any other communication created in your prj, 16 devices can be connected. Therefore that message about 4 devices out of permission range. In my opinion, on S7-1200 there isn't other solution with expand of HW which can add more resources. My opinion. Solution can be maybe cut your profinet network and add another S7-1200 with rest or required number of Profinet devices. Then use of some S7 communication f.ex. if you need exchange some data between CPUs. Check this link (standard): CPU S7-1215 specification Or another solution is S7-1500, check required type of CPU which can handle 32 devices.

ohernandez Posts: 5 Rating: (2)	Thanks for replying so quickly. I guess I´ll have to do that...I can´t acquire an S7-1500 so I´ll cut my PROFINET network then. But it´s such a pity that there can only be connected 16 IO devices (under PROFINET) to CPU 1215C . Thank you again, best regards!

The 2nd s7-1200 would simply be remote I/O to handle the profinet comms for around half of the SIMOCODES. When I say "cheat", I really mean, less expensive option compared to using a s7-1500. Look at the profinet spec's for the lowest end S7-1200 and see if it will also do 16. If not, get the lowest level S7-1200 that can do 16, or one that does 8, and the main PLC does 12. It's a pretty good deal. FYI, the original s7-1200s only handled 8 PN connections.
