Nikzitronik Posts: 150 Rating: (19)	I recently set up a S7-1200 system with a magelis HMISTU855 touch panel from Schneider Electric. All was great apart from the time sync between the PLC and HMI. I think the HMI has no battery backup to keep the time setting, so at each poer cycle it loses the time. I did not need time sync for my project but I gave it a go for future reference. I didnt manage to make it work though. I read the time from the PLC in Date_n_time format, then split it in seperate integers. In the HMI software (Vijeo designer) I set up the dialog table "Set terminal clock" function to the addresses I set up in the Datablock. I didnt do anything more in the HMI side, as time was pressing for the startup. From that crude set up though I saw that the time between the PLC and HMI was not the same, after cycling the power in the HMI, when the time sync takes place. So did anyone use that panel before, having set up the time sync successfully?

In that case maybe it's possible to obtain the actual time from the S7-1200 and set the time with some sort of scheduler for executing system functions at regular intervals. Or maybe you can use NTP and Ethernet to set the right time on both the Magelis and the S7-1200? Can the MAgelis also be NTP client? Do you have an NTP server available?

Nikzitronik Posts: 150 Rating: (19)	I managed to solve the problem by using a script in the HMI. In the PLC side I made INT variables for each element of the Date_and_time. I made these data available in the HMI as tags. I then wrote the script below. The trick is to setup the same script twice as an action. The first time I set it up as a conditional action. I made a flag in the PLC that is set 30 seconds after the PLC starts up .That way I am sure that both the PLC and HMI have Booted. I then use this flag to trigger the action and run the sync script. The second script is set as a periodic action every day at midnight in my case, so as to prevent drift between the HMI clock and the PLC clock. I haven't done this before so not sure if one can just drag it into a project or not. If you can then it is as simple as placing this FB in your main OB(Make sure the FB is not ticked for Optimised Block Access) and then in the VIJEODESIGNER PLC DIALOG TABLE: select DB(whatever the address of the DB instance once you have compiled the block).DBW0. E.g DB1.DBW0. Function: set terminal clock from PLC and make sure Terminal(HMI) is set to BCD. I am more familiar with Schneider/modicon m340 plc's but have worked on a few s71200/300's. I really appreciate the wealth of information and assistance on the Siemens Online Support. If I can give something back that is great - probably there is a way that is far easier than mine.
