I can not use this block ( i am using V5.4SP4) are there similar blocks i can use?

If you are using TIA and want to utilize it potential you should use symbolic adressing

So lets say you have  "Global_DB.MyWord" tag created

You need to use operation called slice which is described here:

And here is a trick:

Please note.. the question was asked in the "Step 7 / Step 7 Lite" conference - which means the classic software with latest version Step7 V5.5. This software can program "classic" PLC ranges S7-300 and S7-400.

Step7 under TIA Portal is the "next" generation. Under this framework you will find Step7 - now at V13. The newer generation PLC ranges S7-1200 and S7-1500 ranges as well as "classic" PLC ranges S7-300 and S7-400 can be programmed (with the right licensing).

The slicing technique is only available for the S7-1200 and S7-1500 PLCs and not the classic PLC ranges S7-300 and S7-400.

Hi all

I have made a function block, in the funtion block there are several errors that can occur (for example motor temperature, motor speed to high, ...) I want to set bits that are in relation with the error (for example motor temperature to high = 0000 0001, motor speed to high = 0000 0010,
both errors = 0000 0011) how can i simply set and reset bits???

Let's assume your error bits are in a DB, call it DB10. In DB10, you define error word DB10 Word 0 as ERROR_WORD. You can access the entire word as %DB10.ERROR_WORD.

You can access bits 0-7 of ERROR_WORD as %DB10.DBX0.0-%DB10.DBX0.7
You can access bits 8-15 of ERROR_WORD as %DB10.DBX1.0-%DB10.DBX1.7

After that, treat them as regular bits for setting and resetting using (S) and (R)coil instructions.

On the HMI, you map over DB10 ERROR_WORD as INT or WORD starting at address 0. You can then access the bits within that word.
