I have a question about possibility of configuring Profibus DP network with One S7-400 master, two S7-300 slaves and one HMI control panel on one network. Generally, I know, that two masters on on network are not allowed. What about Profibus DP? Thanks. Borism

Fatso Posts: 168 Rating: (6)	Hi you can have several masters on profibus.All masters on the network form active nodes and the slaves form passive nodes.A token is passed from master to master.A master with the token can communicate with the slaves until the token timer expires and then the token is passed to the next master.Look at the online helpfor more information.

Borism Hi You can built one network and connect 2 profibus master with using DP/DP Coupler, but this is depend of application topology, customer posibilities... - current project. And S7 - 400 maybe you mean CPU, S7-300 what you mean. Give us more information about your hardware. regards

We all know that the HMI in a S7 is an active node on the network, because it does S7 Communication to the PLC. But being an active node is not the same as being a Master class 2. The functionality of a Master Class 2 is to access the DP Slaves to do diagnostics, read the inputs or to change parameters. The HMI surely does not do this, is it? Calling just active nodes on a PROFIBUS to be a "Master" is not true either. Because the PROFIBUS is a multi protocol Network. So I would say you may have several active nodes on one PROFIBUS... but not all of them have to be DP Master, but they may. I hope you agree with me in this point. Best regards J_Bell

The only point I would care about is to check if the Bus parameters consider all nodes on the Network. If the Time might get too short it is recommendable to set the Standard parameters form DP to Standard. In this case it has to work anyway. Best regards J_Bell
