Hello all, 

This may be a very basic yes or no answer, however it is regarding a topic I know very little and would appreciate any help. 

I am using a Siemens LOGO! and controlling it with an application over an Ethernet cable (Modbus TCP/IP). Thats all fine.

The issue I have is this software will be running on the clients computer and that is already using its Ethernet port to send and receive data to another device it is controlling. 

Is the solution to this as simple as using a splitter?

I suspect not but it is difficult to find information on this.

Any information on this would be a big help and greatly appreciated.

Hello Jack,
when you have got an Ethernet with several devices connected to it, the logical connections are defined with IP address and port number. Each device reacts only on frames which are addressed to itsself. The other frames are discarded. So you need no additional hardware as long as the IP addresses are part of the same IP address range.

Thanks for the advice.
Just to be clear, You said no additional hardware is required. Obviously some is as i have two Ethernet connections to make and one port, do you mean nothing further is required?
Will the splitter I linked do the job?
