MM420 - Annoying F0072

Graeme Platinum Expert Joined: 6/4/2008 Last visit: 11/25/2025 Posts: 1521 Rating: (327)	Hi All, I have a network as follows. 1 off MM420, 1 off MM440, and one off MM430 all daisy chained together in RS485 network, with setpoint coming from S7-200 PLC. (The MM420 is situated before theother two drives). The terminations of the network are by Profibus style plug connector at the PLC end and by the supplied terminator network at the end drive MM430. The MM420 which controls the feedrate of a 1.5 metre stone saw keeps dropping out on F0072. (The other drives are fine). We bonded the comms cableat each node and pulled it out of the trunking in the panel in case of interference. I am loath to alter the telegram time in case the saw breaks (very expensive - 150 off diamond tips) The manual suggests that the USS master is suspect, but howcome the other two drives are fine? Logic would suggest that the cable is ok as the two other drives function correctly, I simulated the fault on the drives by removing the plug from the PLC, all drives tripped on F0072 - OK. Any suggestions out there??? Regards!!

Tractor Gold Expert Joined: 3/27/2008 Last visit: 1/18/2026 Posts: 1236 Rating: (149)	Try reducing the PWM rate or Pulse frequency, P1800 to 2kHz.If this reduces the number of F codes it will be the high frequency leakage from the motor which is corrupting the telegram. Also look at the bonding between the MM420 and the motor, is this cable screened and terminated by a gland into the motor and without a break at the Drive chassis. If you have an oscilloscope it is possible to see the pulses of the telegram, which should be good and square in shape, any damage to the leading edges of the pulses will cause an error.

marcsinclair Posts: 49 Rating: (5)	Hi, What is the timeout set to? What is the baud rate set to ? Are you sure that you have a good (>2.5mm ) cable from the earth on the inverter to the earth (PE) on the PLC? Are you using a terminating resistor? Are you using good quality PROFIBUS type cable?
