Read Excel Cell and if greater than a value set an Internal Tag

LabControl John Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	I'm looking for a VB script that will read a cell value in Excel and if that value is greater than 65,000 then set an WinCC internal tag to "0". I have a VBscript that logs data to an Excel file when "StartLog" =1 (HMI Button tied to an Internal Tag. I want to set the script so that the data logging doe not exceed row 65,000 (Excel limitation), in case the operatorforgetsto turn of the logging it will do so automatically.

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (45)	Are you talking about .XLS file or .CSV file? If it is a .XLS file you are writing from WinCC with VBScript, it should be very simple as your script will have the cell # you are writing to. If it is .CSV as given in the FAQ above, then you will have to keep the count in a variable or internal tag. If you need further help, please post your script that writes the file.

LabControl John Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	The Excel file has a cell that the value is changed based on a second script. the logging script needs to read the value in in the cell and if the values isgreaterthan 65000 then the script will set the internal tag to "0". I know how to write to the Internal tag. I need the part of the script that will read the Excel (xls) cell and if greater than 65000 then set the tag to "0"

JMJ Posts: 487 Rating: (45)	John, In this case what you can do is to usae OPC. You cantrigger a script in excel on "Worksheet_change" event. This event also gives you the cell which changed. So with the help pf this event, you can write to the WinCC internal Tag using OPC. In WinCC information system, there is a sample "Creating OPC DA Client in Microsoft Excel". This shows reading and writing WinCC tags from excel. It also uses a "Worksheet_change" event to write changed value to a WinCC Tag. You can use this example as a very good reference.

LabControl John Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	I washoping to avoid OPC since the script is run through the WinCC VB editor I am looking for something like If objSheetLog1.Cells(4, 2).Value => 65000, then HMIRuntime.Tags("SEND_REPT_PV").Write 0,1 The full script takes the WinCC tag data and logs it to Excel log. The problems is if the Excell log exceeds the row limitation of Excel (~65000) the log keeps opening new instances of Excel. I have a cell that keeps track of the row number. If there is a piece code that reads the actual row number then that could be used to set the send_rept_pv tag to 0
