AutoGen_1046295 Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hey guys. Im fairly new to TIA and have a question. I want to change "Connections>Area Pointer>Global area pointer of HMI device> screen number" to symbolic address instead of absolute. Its an internal tag with no PLC connection. I cant find a drop down option or anything to change it. Thoughts? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Split from Global area pointer DT/Job Mailbox DT.

Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 1/19/2026 Posts: 16644 Rating: (1944)	Hello First of all you use the Area Pointer in a Connection to PLC so Areas Pointers are Data Areas to Exchange Information with PLC. -> So you cannot use an Internal Tag for Area Pointer Screen Number!!! If you choose Symbolic you have to use A PLC Tag-Object or you choose Absolute then you need a PLC Tag Address. But you can use that Area Pointer also as a normal HMI Tag. So the Panel sends the Screennumber to PLC DB and you read it out over HMI Tag. But using only an internal Tag in HMI for Area Pointer is not possible. Bye Murof

This uses the PLC variable type is "Array[0..3] of Word. JobMailBox[0] := 51; //command JobMailBox[1] := #ScreenNoRequest //Screen number request to activate JobMailBox[2] := 0; JobMailBox[3] := 1; If you want to read the active scree no. there are many ways. Below is using the area pointer at "Connections -> Global area pointer of HMI Device -> Screen Number" Select the HMI connection and PLC variable type and type is "Array[0..4]". Good luck
