I am trying to use an On delay timer inside my FC block

I cant declare the T1 for example as a local variable? there is no data type "Timer" so i cant use #T1

this to me defeats the purpose of using a FC for re-usability? 

any help would be greatly appreciated

What kind of Timer Are you using?

IEC timer or the others.

I think you are trying to use IEC timer like S5 timer.

I don't have a s7 1500 project at hand, but if you use an IEC-Timer, you can create a "Parameter-Instance" (maby this works for Siemens Timer as well?).

This timer can be parameterized in the block you call the FC.

And how would you like to reuse an FC which in all places uses the same S5 timer? Luckily you are protected from yourself.

If you need to use an S5 timer inside an FC then you should pass it to the FC as an input.

Typical way to make an reusable block using timers is to make an FB and use IEC timers declared in its interface.

IMHO. As the name suggest the S5 timers should be used in S5. And in S7 projects migrated from S5.

I belive that you can not use SFB4 (TON) or IEC timer inside a FC function if you want to reuse function inside your program. For that you need to use FB function with SFB4 inside, then you can reuse this function for many times you want inside your program.
