Is G120 drive suitable for high frequency spindle for milling application.

We have high frequency spindle of 2.2Kw , and rated frequency is 400Hz, 24000 rpm.

So is G120 capable of controlling speed of this spindle?

CU250 is not suitable for driving synchronus motors.

You can check at this link. Also consider the maximum frequency for operation of the power module. For some, max output freq is 240Hz

If all the answers come back the PM can go to 400 Hz, and the CU240e can certainly control a G120 PM, you still need to ask yourself a few more questions.

Is this for a production piece of equipment where the milling feeds and speeds are within dynamic response range of a G120 CU.

If the torque seen at the tip of the mill is not used as a feedback to control milling feed rates, an S120 may be the only solution to be responsive enough to maintain proper surface finish on the milled workpieces.

Keeping the torque at the mill in the sweet spot for each milling tool and material being milled is important, and a G120 may not being able to do this with a high speed automated milling machine.

My suggestion is (because of the relatively low cost) to try a G120, but be ready to replace the CU240e with a S110 control unit, or S120 CU / drive.  There is some overlap at the lower end for PMs, so you may be able to find S120 performance for a little extra cost for the control unit.
