On our automatic saw controlled with S1217,  analog controlled drive and linear encoder connected to HSC we have problem with interference of the signal from encoder to PLC.

The cable from encoder to PLC is long about 10  m, even when it is shielded it is not working properly, the interference are causing deviation in positioning. We have installed noise filters to motor and coils, this helped only partly.

 I suppose that it would help to replace the sending  of the quadratic signal from  encoder to HSC with something more sophisticated  , profinet etc. I have considered those option

a) install a PROFIdrive linear encoder - but I cant not find any, there are plenty rotary PROFIdrive encoders but none of them  linear

b) Install on the moving part some distributed HSC counter,- I did not find any "field " version of it , I found only some module for ET200, but this is suitable rather for cabinets not for the moving axis

how about SSI for linear encoder instead of Profinet? You shold be able to find more with SSI linear

Yes that looks good, actually the drive has an SSl connector as well and it is possible to add adaptor for connection of the driver  over Profibus.
