Carlet Posts: 34 Rating: (2)	Hi I have recently installed Step 7 5.4 SP3 and now have a little problem. When Iwant to archive a project with along name, my Step 7 archives it with a short name, so when I do the decompression the original name is lost. For example, if the project name is somewhat like "xxxxxxxxxxxxx", Step 7 archives it with the name "xxxxxx~1". How can I do to solve this?? Thanks to all.

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	Is your archive program PKZIP V8.6? If yes, you should install Step 7 5.4 SP3.1during whichthe PKZIP is rolled back to V4.0. There are known issues with PKZIP V8.6. I do not have a "native" Step 7 installation but have PCS7 V6.1.1 (Step 7 V5.3 SP2 HF7) and PCS7 V7.0.1 (Step7 V5.4 SP3 HF1) installations. I tried the following: - I created a project with a long name (20 char) on both these installations and the folder name was as defined (very long) - archived the projects - deleted the projects - retrieved the projects The result: In both cases the folder names were truncated So, are you sure you did not see the problem in your old version? I'll let you know if I find anything. Anyone else notice this behavior?

Carlet Posts: 34 Rating: (2)	I would like to say that the problem was solved but it isn't.... I actually use 7zip to archive my project folders!!! It's a lot boring and time wasting but it is the only solution I found. Unfortunately I don't think that Siemens give help about this.... Hi.

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	Did some more research on this and found why this is happening. There is no problem with the Step7 version or the PKZIP V4.0. The behavior is identical in both S7 versions I tried. The key is, when the archive is created. Let me explain step by step: 1. Create a project with a long filename (24 char max). 2. The project folder name is automatically truncated to 8 char. 3. Close project and Simatic Manager and rename the main project folder to original long filename. 4. Open Simatic Manager. 5. Open File and browse for the project with the long project name. The project cannot be seen without browsing since the name was changed. 6. Close the project and archive the project. 7. Delete the project and retrieve again. The long folder name will be preserved. Now, in step 5 above, opening the file is very critical. Had you tried to archive the project directly (that is File/Archive/Browse), the long folder name will be truncated and the end substituted by ~1. This means you should first open the project once after changing the name and only then archive. Try this and let me know if it works. Regards

The answer from Siemens was : " We have had in the past so a behavior with STEP7 V5.4+SP3.1 when there is WinCCFlexible 2007 was installed. The directory name can be truncated sometimes. To solve this behavior you need HF3 for WinCCFlexible 2007." And indeed, there is WinCCFlexible 2007installed by me. So, I downloaded the HF4 for WinCCFlexible 2007 from internet and I installed the HF4 on my PC. Afterwards the problem is solved, after archiving and retrieving the project name is now the same. It sounds strange, you have a problem in Step 7 and you have to instal a HF for WinCCFlexible, but for me, it works.

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	Thanks for the update Carlet. As described in my earlier post the problem also exists (at least partially) even without WinCC Flexible installed. The problem is probably because of the amount of memory reserved for storing the filename. Regards.
