What I need is a way to convert input pulses into metres per minute. I only have one pulse per metre and the machine in question can be doing anything from 15-98 metres per minute. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Just to repeat; I have a working program that counts metres of film on a roll. Counting down from a set figure it reaches zero then initiates a roll change, resets and starts again. I have now been handed a 600ppr encoder to hook up and not only give metres per minute but an accurate measure of the time left to the next roll change. The encoder will be giving 1200 pulses per metre. I have no idea where to start on this part of the circuit as this is only my second Logo! project. Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I can't upload what I have already as it's at work and I'm at home.

I recommend to use S7-200 or S7-1200. They have HSC integrated with the CPUs.

That are 600 * 2 = 1200 pulses for one meter film- correct? How many meters have one roll and what is the speed (or the speed range) of the roll? Best regards Betel

The speed range can be anywhere between 15 and 95 metres per minute and the maximum roll size would be up to 32000 metres. So 1200 pulses per metre would still be under 2khz, so 0BA7 should be able to handle this OK.

Remember you can reduce the value at the 1. counter (and calculate the value for ON of the second counter new) but then you can get high errors if you have a high speed of your roll !!! I don't suppose you could shine some light on the speed and time side of things could you. I don't expect you to design the whole thing for me, (though feel free if you like). If someone could point me in the right direction as far as the maths side of it goes it would be a huge help.

It displays time remaining in minutes ie. 300 minutes for a large roll of film but it would be nice to have it in the format, HH:MM:SS. If you want me to I can upload the program for your amusement. Over two units it is possible by using a block off-delay and display the remaining time. to do that vou must define the time parameter by a pointer to an other function.
