I have a new project that I am starting up and its been a while since I worked with siemens so any help is appreciated.

The Issue is that buttons don't change the value in the plc and indicators don't display the state of tags in the plc.

I have attached a picture of the set up for the connection. I can both ping and download to both the PLC and HMI and they show up with green checkmarks in the hardware config with I go online with them.

The HMI also has yellow triangles with exclamation points over the buttons.

Any help is appreciated.

I did just factory reset everything and commission the equipment again and got the same results. I was think the issue might be related to the device name for the HMI. These unified comfort panels have the ports (X1P1 & X1P2 share one network, X2P1 is on its own network). The PLC and my PC are physically connected to X1P1 through a unmanaged ethernet switch.

 Put a cable from X1 of the HMI to X1 of the PLC directly to test.

Attached is the device names on the HMI.

The cable is physically plugged into X1P1. Plugging into X1P2 does not resolve the issues

File attached/. I had to get rid of nearly everything to get the file size small enough to post. The only real functionality is moving between manual and auto mode and two numeric displays. One should read zero, one should read one.

The connection is working now. The steps I took were as follows:

1. Create new project

2. Upload PLC

3. Create new HMI in project. Add 1 screen and a few indicators.

4. Set up hardware config. 

4.a Drag HMI connection between plc and hmi

4.b change device names for hmi

5. Download PLC Hardware, PLC Software, HMI Software.

I did create the original program in 16 and convert to 17. This one was made in just 17.

I don't know that I have root-cause on the issue but I have a few more cells to do this too in the coming weeks. If I figure it out I will reply so future users don't struggle as I did.

I had a similar problem with my MTP1500.

Creating a new project with a MTP1500 Unified Panel and an ET200SP 1510 CPU. The HMI connection is not established, it is attempting but gets dropped almost immediately. I suspect there might be some issues with certificates, but I have no idea how to check and fix those issues. I was able to connect using other communication drivers but not HMI Connection (OPC UA was write only for some reason).

I also tested with a TP700 panel and it had no issues. It even worked with Secure Communication.

I ended up solving it by creating a project in TIA V16 and adding the PLC, HMI and setting up the connection to read some tags from a DB. I then archived this project and restored it in TIA V17, then I changed the device versions to the latest versions making sure to uncheck Only allow Secure Communication.

Probably you found the issue already, but I will post it anyway for others.
Check in your DB or TagTable the attributes. In Tia V17/18 are unchecked by default.

Make sure 'Writable from HMI ...' is checked!

I think this is very serious issue with MTP panel product. I use TIAV18 and CPU S7-1511 and still no luck connecting with the uncheck secure connection (legacy connection) between the panel and PLC !!

I understand siemens take seriusly about secure connection but the legacy option shoul work as it's still available option.

The mentioned solution that says create the project first in TIA v16 then converted to TIA v17 / newer as solution is does not make sense at all !!

I hope siemens expert see this post and take seriously on this issue ASAP.

As the person experiencing this issue is not just me.
