For this purpose I am considering using TIA Openness and it's XML import/export feature. At first, I migrated V16 to V17 and then export XML configuration for Program blocks. Now I want to reimport them into V15.1. Is it possible? Is there an aplication example for V15.1 with which I can reimport XML files? There are some topics on this subject matter - how to import and export code blocks using the scripter. But Siemens has made a change which makes those topics redundant. They have now bolted Openness scripting onto Python. Brilliant! You can even use VSCode. Check it out. [LINK: Tool for easier use of the TIA Portal Openness interface (TIA Scripting Python)] There are some sample coding also which will make it worth your while. (Captured from the companion PDF.) Openness scripting is a viable alternative for light weight tasks for projects from V15.1 to V20. (As per 2025.06.15.)

I tried but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work in TIA V15.1 despite that this version is mentioned as the one that works with TIA scripting. Export from TIA V17 worked well. When I try to import files into V15.1 I get the following error: ============================================================================== C:\109742322_TIA_Scripting_Python_CODE_V107\example_workflows>py importer.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\109742322_TIA_Scripting_Python_CODE_V107\example_workflows\importer.py", line 32, in <module> portal = ts.open_portal(ts.Enums.PortalMode.WithGraphicalUserInterface, version = version) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ValueError: OpennessAccessException: No matching TIA Portal version could be found. =============================================================================== In the “importer.py” file I set: version = “15.1” In V17 I set: version = "17.0" and it works well. Why doesn't it work wit 15.1? Btw, setting "version = "16.0" also doesn't work.

I would guess that Openness is either not installed or correctly configured for V15.1 and V16. It is possible that the V17 XML export is not compatible with V15.1 and V16. There may even be parts of the project that has compatible XML. Hardware configuration might hypothetically be an issue. Test it. Make a small program in V15.1. Then use the export and then use the import Python script. The export script should work if your Openness V15.1 is correctly configured. Try the same with V16 (export and then back with import). For me it is far less work to get the scripting to work than getting C# to play ball. If all else fails, register a support request with Siemens. One last thing.. When using STL or SCL there is always the option of exporting to ASCII text files.

It looks like scripts can't find TIA V15.1 installed, as well as V16. Maybe the problem in version declaration inside the script or it requires additional changes… With V17 there is any problem to connect and to import/export XML files (with higher versions I didn't test).

That is frustrating news. In the document that is provided with the scripting 'install' is mention of the requirements. It is the documentation that comes with the bigger Openness implementation.
