Error in upgrading the firmware for CPU 315-2DP

Charan46 Joined: 1/17/2024 Last visit: 6/17/2025 Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have a problem in updating the firmware for CPU 315-2DP (6ES7-315-2AG10-0AB0) Current Firmware - V2.0.12 I need to upgrade the firmware to V2.6.11, So while upgrading the firmware file I got an error, Error is attached below. I need to establish communication between this PLC & TIA_V19 because TIA_V19 supports only V2.6. Attachment Error.zip (334 Downloads)

itafusna Silver Member Joined: 2/17/2020 Last visit: 8/29/2025 Posts: 1251 Rating: (237)	Hi, to update the firmware of your CPU 315-2DP with an online connection and STEP 7, the controller must already have firmware version V2.6.1 or higher. In your case, the CPU has FW V2.0, so the firmware update is only possible thanks to a Micro Memory Card with at least 4 MB storage capacity 4 MB storage capacity: Operating System Updates for CPU 315-2DP

Charan46 Joined: 1/17/2024 Last visit: 6/17/2025 Posts: 16 Rating: (0)	Hi, We have found a solution for this. First we have used Simatic Step 7 Manager for CPU 315-2DP (6ES7-315-2AG10-0AB0). In the hardware configuration we have used V2.6 and loaded a program into CPU, but in the PLC current Firmware is V2.0.12. After that In TIA_V19, in Hardware configuration I have selected PLC firmware as V2.6. My question is, In OFFLINE PLC firmware is V2.6 and ONLINE firmware is V2.0.12 But still I am able to communicate also and run the machine without upgrading the firmware to V2.6.11 So is it recommend to use this... Or Should I upgrade it to V2.6.11 ...... will i face any issues in future by doing this??

However, my recommendation is that you update your CPU to V2.6.X via MMC. Please make sure you have the original project downloaded to the S7 CPU before updating the FW.

Same problem as above. 315-2AG10-0AB0 v2.0.5 My question is: Do I have to use a Simatic MMC or will any brand do? If so, is there an upper limit to the MMC size? It is not easy to find MMC's below 1Gb these days. Is it possible to configure the v2.0.5 in manager? Or do I have to use the v2.6? Best regards from Norway.

If the PLC has fw below v2,5, you need a Siemens MMC to update the firmware. You can't use a generic SD. From the below link, you can find instructions what you need to do to update the firmware of the PLC. You can add that CPU to a project as v2.0 or v2.6, so you don't need to update the firmware of the PLC. Operating System Updates for CPU 315-2 PN/DP
