My experience on Modbus devices integration to Siemens SCADA is normally they communicate to a S7 CPU first before they can be displayed on WinCC runtime.

But can we configure Modbus TCP devices directly to the TIA Portal WinCC PC station (like other SCADA software)?

If so (I really hope), would it matter what type of device, or you only need to know the IP address and data register addresses?

I will be using the latest TIA Portal version.

 This is normal for other brands SCADA (direct communication of Modbus device). So I'm asking if it's possible with the latest WinCC/TIA Portal.

My inquiry is for a PC station not HMI, but upon checking it, I was surprised to see there's actually a "Modicon Modbus TCP" driver available as well for PC Station.

But it only has these 2 CPU options which seems to be a very particular PLC models (see attachment). So now I'm not sure if this driver is just for these 2 CPU, or universal Modbus TCP driver, and I'm inclined to think it's the former because of the specific "Modicon" name on that driver..

What I need is direct PC driver for universal Modbus TCP devices. I hope there's someone who has actual experience on this one..
