X420 on SBM2

Catalinch Posts: 26 Rating: (0)	Hello. My name is Catalin, i am a junior automation engineer and i would need some assistance if possible. On a Simovert Masterdrive MC i have an SBM2 card. In the x424 connector there is an Endat Abosulte Encoder from a motor. In the x420 connector there is a connection to a camera which takes pictures when receiving impulses from the encoder simulator of the SBM2. The problem is that sometimes the Masterdrive MC stops with A135 alarm. If i remove the camera cable from X420 this alarm doesnt appear anymore. If i plug it back in then within few hours/days this alarm comes again and stops the machine. The cable from the camera is using pins 80,81,84,85 from the x420 connector. The only clue that i found so far is a note from comependium about the x420 port saying: The signals are not isolated from potential. A frame connection to x101/2 must also be made. This note refers to the grounding of the cable to be connected to x101/2 ? And could this be the cause of the alarm ? If not what other cause can there be? Are there any parameters that need to be setup in order to use the port x420 properly? Beacause right now i just plug in the cable, power on the machine and it works...for few hours/days untill i receive this alarm. I also noticed that sometimes while the machine is running the drive shows alarms A28, A19 but it dont stop, they just appear and dissapear untill the A135 appears, then the machine stops.

Hi, This sounds like some kind of auto registration system. Do you have any circuit diagrams of the connections, what kind of load is attached to the X420 port. Sounds to me like your camera may be overloading the card. If this has been working for many years, it may be worth considering that components age, and loads can increase over time. Is it possible to use an oscilloscope to measure the pulses with and without the camera connected. Regards, Graeme
