In case of replacement of the 318th PLC, it is better to look towards the 400th series, since this PLC is the 400th in the skin of the 300th ...

If you are migrating a project for another family of controllers, you need to be careful, because if the project uses indirect addressing, some operations may not be supported by the 1500 series - and there will be errors in the migration.

In the general case, migration is possible - you would just try to do it in your TIA PORTAL - you will see for yourself how this works and what can happen.

Even 1515-2PN/DP can be enough for your tasks, it's up to you.

I need to change a 318-2 cpu to a 317 or 319 CPU. 

 I'm not sure which one to choose.  What made me choose a 319 instead of a 317 ? 

Knowing that I compared the technical characteristics of a 318-2 with a 317-2 and already the 317 is more efficient in all areas.

You can use CPU 318 Migration Check . This tool will check whether S7 programs which you have developed for the CPU 318-2DP can also run on a current S7-300 CPU. You have just to open the tool and browse the software and it will tell you which CPU is the optimum solution for you.

Thanks for replies. The "318 Check" tool puts me full of errors.

I give up the solution 317 or 319.  Migration under TIA V15.1 with a CPU 1516 also gives me a lot of error. 

So I'm going to go on a 400.

Can I just change the CPU and keep the cards in 300 format ?

Cards from the 300th series are not supported in the 400th series of controllers.
