Hello William, yes it looks like you are correct. Even though my TD 200 is V3.0.1.1. The Wizard shows TD200 Version 2.1 and earlier was selected.in my existing program.

Hi Is the control of TD 200 messages from the S7 200 as simple as this?

when the control bit for the message is 1 - the message displays, if multiplle msgs are on the higher priority displays.....

Good to hear from you. It seems very much likely that you will figure this one out even without any of our help - nice! If you run through the TD wizard, even if not making changes, the wizard will restructure the datablock and add commentary. With this commentary you will have most questions you have asked about the datablock will be answered.

So before it is too late to help you [wink].. a few pointers. In short the TD wizard the datablock contains a header and messages. You have already identified most of the information contained in the header - this includes character set, password, address range of M-flags representing F-keys, ++. There after the messages follow. Each message take up 40 bytes. Either the byte represents a character or is combined for a special function - started with 16#00. Working via the TD wizard can however make it a bit easier to work with.

Attached is a JPEG with numbers on it. This is a view you will have when going to the message section of the TD wizard. In this case I have also double-clicked on the grey area marked with (3) to show the entry field (Embedded Data).

The most important part:
When a program activates the "message enable bit" (6), the TD200 reads the message from the PLC and displays the message. The message is shown while the "message enable bit" (6) is TRUE. The embedded data are your entry fields for which the address is shown in "address of data value" (8). When an embedded data value changes, the "edit notification bit" (7) is set. The program should reset this bit when read.

Now for some detail.. (seenext postfor very detailed description.)

The following text descibes an image in the previous post. It details the message system of the TD200 as seen in the TD setup wizard.

The "Previous Message" and "Next Message" button scrolls through the messages that is configured. The message number (1) will change. If multiple messages are active, the message with the lowest number will be shown first. Arrows will flash on the right to indicate up/down arrows can be used to scroll though the message.

The message is typed in, in the message area (2). The message area (2) may contain normal text or embedded data.

Embedded data (3) is seen in the message area (2) as a grey coloured area. Double click on the field to open an existing field. Embedded data can be a number field for reading value or for entering a value. Embedded data can also be one character to represent a request to have the user acknowledge the message by pressing (green button) ENTER.

"Embedded Data" button (4) can be pressed to create a new field in the message area (2) for embedded data. The mouse cursor should already be in position in the message area (2) where the field should go to. Some issues might occur when too close to the message area (2).

The beginning of the message is indicated. In the example this is VB392. The next message starts at address position (392 + 20) >> VB412. The characters in the message can also be changed. For example: 'Z' - MOV_B - VB392 will change the "Seal" to "Zeal".

"Message Enable Bit" (6) in the example is V13.6. The program only needs to coil V13.6 to have the TD200 show the 40 character message.

"Edit Notification Bit" (7) in the example is V408.2. When the user changed the value in the field, the notification bit (7) will go TRUE. the bit stays TRUE until the program makes it FALSE.

[8]
"Address of Data Value" (8) in the example is VW410. In this case VW410 holds the unsigned integer value that is displayed in the message. The number is shown as if it has one decimal. The user activate editing of the number when pressing the (green button) ENTER. To activate the next entry, pressing ENTER again.

"User allowed to edit this data" (9) selects if the displayed number is for display only or can it be changed.

The byte of the M-flags that is used to represent the F-keys are listed earlier in the wizard. In your case the {M10.0 .. M10.7} represent {F1 .. F8}. When the F-key is pressed the corresponding M-flag is set TRUE. The M-flag should be cleared to FALSE by the PLC program. F5 to F10 is 2nd functions of F1 to F4. The functions are activated: Press SHIFT; Release SHIFT; Press F-key; Release F-key.
