In a project of mine, I need to separate an existing S7-400H system in two different cabinets. At the moment, both PLC are located in the same cabinet.

The two cabinets are located far one from another (>10m), hence I did plan to use sync module 6ES7960-1AB06-0XA0.

However, these cabinets are connected by existing multimode FO and we did not plan to install monomode FO. If I use a switch equiped with the adequate SFP in order to convert FO signals, will the redundancy still work ?

Simply, The Protocol of Sync. Communication between 2 S7-400H CPUs is not Ethernet.
There are FO connections. It can be done using single or multi-mode FO cables.

 The suitable solution for you is to use a suitable FO cable with a sufficient number of cores and install in each panel a small patch panel with necessary accessories (FO couplers) then use FO batch cables to connect to CPUs
