Hello, It seems I'm not the only macOS user struggling to get LOGOComfort working on macOS. So far, I hadn't seen macOS 15 (Sequoia) listed in the forum, so I'm writing up my steps to get it installed and working. FYI, I'm using a MacBook Pro with an Intel chip. Most information is gathered from the following two threads: While all the pieces are in the above threads, my puzzle only fell complete by making a few minor modifications. To prevent others needing to collect it as well, below are the complete steps. Java Virtual Machines The installer requires Java 8, while the LOGOComfort app itself needs Java 11. The Amazon Corretto editions of these Java Virtual Machines work fine. Manual installation according the Amazon documentation: If you use the Homebrew package manager on macOS, the following shell commands will do:
Download & Prepare the 8.4 Update Installer From the Siemens Support Portal, download the LOGO! Soft Comfort Upgrade V8.4. In the Finder, double click the downloaded ZIP file to unzip it. You will get a folder named "Web_Installers". Go to the path "Web_Installers/LOGO! Comfort/InstData/MacOSX/NoVM" and again double click the file "Setup.zip" to unzip it. We now have all the files we need. Open a shell (Terminal.app or equivalent). Assuming you downloaded and unzipped everthing in the Downloads folder of your user account, run the following commands:
These commands set a missing executable flag on the actual "Setup" binary and overrides the fact that the application is not signed and safe to run. If we don't do this, macOS will give us an error message that the app is damaged. Specifically here, I remove the "quarantine" flag from much more files than the authors in the other threads specify. It seems that the installer reads from files outside its own folder, so we need to mark more files as safe to use. Run the installer Again, or still, in a shell, we will now start the Setup application using Java 8:
You should see something similar to:
Now start the installer:
The installer should run ok. As my previous version, I had the files from an archived Logo Comfort 7 CD on my NAS and pointed it to the path "Mac/Application(Mac 10.5 or later)" which was accepted by the installer as my previous version. Complete the installation process. Run the LOGOComfort app This needs to run using Java 11. Similar to the installer, we must first set the correct Java version. From a shell, run this:
Replace "path-where-you-installed-logo-comfort" with the actual folder where you installed the app. This should now launch the app correctly. Hope this helps other users on macOS. And if employees of Siemens are reading this, can you please advocate internally to get this antiquated application modernized for macOS? Ringo |
