I have two Symbolic I/O fileds on my screen. With the first one (SIO-1) the user selects the machine group (Turning, Milling, Grinding ...). After clicking OK button the related resourcelist will be assigned to the second Symbolic I/O filed (SIO-2) where the user can select the specific machine, belonging to the selected machine group.

I have written the following script to the "click left mouse button" event of the OK button:

But the problem is that no Resource list is assigned to SIO-2 after clicking once the OK button. After long trials i have noticed that it is working if i click two times to the button. Or if i write the code above two times repeatedly in the script it is also working. But for sure this not a professional solution.

I have also tried a delay time, before executing the script, but without success.

1) What could be the problem?

2) Can i assign the Resourcelist of SIO-2 without using OK button? That means, after just selecting the machine group in SIO-1 (without clicking additionaly the OK button)

I have tried this also many times for each event of SIO-1, but i couldn't manage it.

Hi,

first of all, i don't think it is possible to find the error, based on the code you provided, but i might be able to give some hints. You should defenetly look at how to debug scripts (for Panels this works with simulation only).

Then it should also be possible to find a solution and trigger it without pressing an "ok" button. Since symbolic IO-Fields have a process value where you can assign a tag you can trigger events based on value changes of that tag. You could do the first symbolic IO without any scripting and then dynamize the ressource list property of the second and use the tag of the first SIO to trigger it.

But i have one  question in my mind for that solution:  If i assign an internal tag to the Symb. IO list, processvalue:

Lets assume that two different users make a selection at the same time; will it be possible that both user make an independant selection? Because the internal tag is not a user tag, it is a common tag.

So if User-1 selects Machine-C the internal tag will get value lets say 3. At the same time the selection for User-2 will also change to Machine-C.

But of course we want that both users can select independent of each other. Am i thinking wrong?

You are thinking correct.

For this you might want to work with DataSets, but this makes it just a little harder, because you can not trigger a script on valueChange of a DataSet.

 You're right. I already suffered this. The only option then it's to trigger the script cyclically (e.g. 250ms trigger) and read the value of the variable from the DataSet.

Sorry, but your code is not working working correct. I will try to explain:

If you select from SIO-1 lets say Machine group 1 (MG-1), then you should see in SIO-2 the Resource List belonging to MG-1, but nothing is coming.

When you select then , another machine group from SIO-1 (MG-2), then you see the resource list of MG-1 in the SIO-2

When you select then , another machine group from SIO-1 (MG-3), then you see the resource list of MG-2 in the SIO-2

That means: you get in SIO-2 the correct reource list with one selection delayy. (in the next selection)

What i have done:

If i write your code 2 times (i know its not good) then it is working. I think there should be a bug.
