LOGO operational temperature tolerance

sludge Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Greeting....and thank you for allowing me this opportunity.....first post! I am quite please to learn of this site and learn about the LOGO from other users. This looks like a goldmind for answers. Question please: I need to install a LOGO in a outdoor enclosure in different parts of the country. The LOGO temperature specifications limits operations between 0 to 55c (131f). The LOGO will be mounted in a closed NEMA4 enclosure and possibly located in direct sunlight hot climates and subject to cold winter climates too. I am concerned about the elevated temperature in the enclosure when the sun light heats up the interior and the effects of below zero temperatures. Do any users have experience with the LOGO in these type of conditions? Thanks and I will share my experiences in the future. Jeff in sunny Florida

sludge Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Yes Wizard, I have looked into the SIPLUS line of LOGO!. I called Siemens and discussed this line in detail with the tech rep. He said the SIPLUS is rated for -.25c and up to +55c. Appearently the electronic components are coated with a comformal coating that increases endurance. Unfortunetly they cost about twice as much as the simular LOGO!. The tech rep said the basic LOGO! is quite robust and does not recall any customer complaints about temerature tolerance. The LCD is most sensitive to extreme temperatures and will go brighter at cold temps and dim at high temps. I am sure the basic LOGO! unit is used in all sorts of climates and wanted feedback from folks who have experience with this appication. Anybody use the LOGO! in outdoor enclosures across the country? Thanks for any feedback or suggetions, Jeff

It keeps getting better… I am developing some applications for LOGO’s in vehicles and will surely experience some of the temp extremes in that application. I have used LOGO’s in greenhouses in Virginia. Temps are similar to what you are describing. I have not had any issues with temperature extremes below 150 ºF (65ºC) – don’t ask how I know this trivial detail... Greater than 150 ºF and the LOGO became damaged and had to be replaced – the LCD screen is what went – I never tested the circuits but I was able to retrieve the program still from the unit. Those LOGO’s were the first and second generation back in 96-97. Perhaps the newer generation LOGO’s are a bit more/less tolerant. I even know the units work after being exposed to 100% humidity and after being sprayed with water like when the cabinet door is left open… These little jewels are tough! PS: I don’t think you will have to worry about the lower end of the temp range being in Sunny Florida eh’. Cheers, Darren

Axel Haar Posts: 13 Rating: (5)	There are 2 types of Siplus LOGO. One type offers -40..+70 Celsius, the other -25..+70 Celsius. The difference is how much they go below 0 degree celsius. For the stronger type (-40 Celsius), only the basic module without display are available. For the other (up to -25) both types of basic modules are available. In terms of UL/cUL approval only the range up to +55 degree Celsius is covered, regardless the physical capability.
