no you cmust not connrect the adapter during the install.

You can it plug after that everytime.

thank you for your quick reply. The adapter seems not working or the computer can't detect the adapter when connecting the adapter (3 LEDs on the adapter do not light up). I have installed SIMATIC v5.5 in the computer.

Do I need to install a specific driver before using the adapter ?

 If you have the older type of adapter, you need to plug it in to a PLC, before it gets operational voltage. USB is not feeding power to the older type adapter.

i am using an older version of the adapter. Am i expecting the LED of the adapter to light up when connecting the adapter to the PLC even before connecting it to the computer ? I am using Windows XP in a virtual machine. The 'PC Adapter' can be seen in the PG/PC Interface (Attachment Bild 1) but the LEDs do not light up when connecting the adapter and Im not so sure whether the computer able to detect the adapter. No detection of the adapter in the host pc (Windows 10) either (SIMATIC is only installed in virtual machine).

if we talk about the 6ES7972-0CB20-0XA0

If you connect the Adapter to the PLC(PLC is powered on) then all 3LED's light up, after seconds the USB LED go off.

If you now connect the Adapter to the PC the USB LED is on.

In the device Manager of windows the adapter is displayed independent if you have driver installed or not.

if you have no driver the adapter is listed in "Other Devices" with a ! Sign.

do you use the MPI cable which is delivered with the adapter ?
A 2 pin Profibus cable do not work!

Hi Christoph,

Yes, i used the short MPI cable, which is delivered with the adapter. The LED do no light up when connecting to the PLC which is powered on. When connecting the USB to computer, nothing happens.

you need 24V from the MPI Interface.

Pin 2 M24V

Pin7  P24V

you can use a external power supply like 6es797-0ca00-0xa0

The CBP2 have no 24v support!

Hi,

i have checked the voltages on the MPI supply. No 24V can be measured. I am using the CBP2.

Since no 24 V can be supplied from the CBP2, can this problem be solved by using the newer version of the adapter, which uses USB power supply ?
