Saving tag values on PLC crash

DSA-FI Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hello, After intense googling and reading WinCC documentation without finding an answer, I decided to try to find help from others here. I have about 20 000 tags (mostly character sets) that I need to save/archive incase of PLC crash and to be able to write them back to PLC DB's on user input. I thought maybe I can use Tag Logging for this, but to my understanding there is no way to directly pick a time/date of Logged tags and write their values back to runtime tag values? The other option I have been given is to create raw data tags and read/write their values to a text file, but due to raw data tag length limitations I'd need to create quite a few raw data tags. I was no able to find a similar question on here and thought that maybe someone has some ideas on how to do this. WinCC version: WinCC 7.5 SP1 Thank you in advance for any ideas/answers!

bg2492 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2188)	Hello DSA-FI, you do not need to install the option Connectivity Pack Server, and you do not need any additional license for it. The WinCC OLE DB Provider is installed and used with WinCC themself, and if you use it inside the WinCC-Project. no additional license is needed. You may need an additional license for the Taglogging, if you log 20.000 tags. Only 512 Archivetags are included in the basic runtime license. 2x 10000 archive variables (countable) 6AV6371-1DQ17-5CX0 or 1x 30000 archive variables (countable) 6AV6371-1DQ17-5EX0 Regards Georg Berghof

And yes, unfortunately I noticed we got the User Archive license (which we thought would fit this use case) instead of an extra Tag Logging archive tags license. Nevertheless, I will try to see if I could make under 500 raw data tags for these DB's and use them in Tag Logging. Thank you once again Mr. Berghof! Regards, DSA

But if you use Userarchive the data in the Userarchive-tables are not actualized "automatically" like with Taglogging. You would need to write all the tagvalues cyclic to the Userarchive-tables, by C-script or with the Control-tags. You can not log raw data in the Taglogging, only numeric tags or string-tags. Then it won't work with ~500 tags. you could use the option Userarchive instead of Taglogging. I'm bit worried about using a C-script to go through all those 20 000 string/character set tags cyclically inside WinCC, as there already are quite a lot of C-Scripts running cyclically through actions updating the visualization. The idea was to "backup" this data every 500ms - 2s if possible. But it seems the best way to do this is by getting the Taglogging extra tags archive license. Regards, DSA

The User Archive license is unopened so I have to weight the pros and cons of using User Archive vs. getting a Tag Logging Archive. I do really like your idea of Tag Logging Archive.
