I have similar question with minor modification and  i will appriciate if someone can help me here.

We are using sinamics s120 with encoder. The encoder is used for positioning of a machine. I am looking for support from any sinamics specialist here. Whenever the encoder fails, the drive goes to fault mode and then if we wish to bring the machine to safe position by operating from local panel(connected to siemens PLC),we can not due to drive in fault.In drive there is parameter to select encoder or encoderless option but it cant be used. Any suggestions ?

User cannot bypass encoder in positioning mode. It is possible only in case of speed or vector with sensorless operation.
