How to use single KTP Basic to control multiple independent PLCs running same program

Echopolsa Regular Member Joined: 6/15/2021 Last visit: 8/22/2025 Posts: 8 Rating: (0)	Hello All I have a standard program that has an S7-1200 PLC and a KTP1200 Basic HMI in its network. We have an upcoming project that will combine multiple of these systems into a single cabinet. I would like to have 4 S7-1200 PLCs running the standard program, and a 5th S7-1200 PLC to communicate with the others to retrieve data on the status of the systems. This will be displayed on a single KTP1200 Basic HMI. These are not combined into a single TIA Portal project I'd like to know if it is possible to use this single KTP1200 HMI to act as the master display showing the status of all systems, but also to use it to configure each individual system so that I do not have to push all configuration data through to the 5th PLC for each system. If this is not possible, then is it possible to do without the KTP1200 acting as a master display? I see a handful of posts referencing document 43997871 but it looks to now be unavailable. It was titled "How can you share runtime-generated parameters between several S7-1200 PLCs with a KTP Basic Panel?" Since the HMI program is identical between the 4 systems, I believe that effectively all that needs to be done (ignoring the master display functionality) is point the HMI at different PLCs depending on which you'd like to be configuring/viewing

The only issue with this solution is that it requires stopping runtime and going into commissioning settings. This isn't an ideal user experience but could work if there's no other option. How do you change the connection from the operator panel to the controller? 2. I see there is a "ChangeConnection" function for HMI buttons. On paper this does what I want but I am having trouble configuring it. I see that since TIA V11 it is not possible on an S7 1200? The post mentioning that is from 2017 so hopefully this has been fixed. Any insight would be appreciated

Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 9/5/2025 Posts: 16349 Rating: (1932)	Hello Echopolsa with Basic Panels 2nd Gen you can only use up o 4 connections to different PLCs. so unfortunately you have 5... this will not work simultaniousliy (you can only create 4) -> If you would use a Comfort Panel then you could use up zp 8 connections then you can connect all 5 at the same time ChangeConnection can only be used with S7300/400 PLCs in case of a Basic Panel (also in the latest Version) So I would think about a Comfort Panel Bye Murof

Or is it only with S7300/400 for both comfort and basic?
