TP Communication Via Repeaters

SPV Experienced Member Joined: 6/28/2007 Last visit: 12/13/2023 Posts: 61 Rating: (4)	Dear Friends, As initially the enginnering was done i was in a concept that the H systems can communicate to a HMI via a Y Link later refering to one of the FAQ i understood that i cannot do it using a Y Link hence forth i have proceeded using a Reapeater but in the FAQ that i have refered it is been specified that the Repeater of type number6ES7 972-0AA01-0AX0 can be used but i am not having this repeater i am having a6ES7 972-0AB01-0XA0 which is a Diagnostic Repeater i have tried doing using this its not working can any one please confirm weather this configuration would work out using6ES7 972-0AB01-0XA0 or not........

About diagnostic repeaters I don't know. I think this kind of connection isn't recommended. And probably if you already tried without success...(of course if hardware is connected according instructions) Regards Hristo Mihalev

jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, I guess that you refer to point 4 of this FAQ: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/22584322 where two repeaters are used (but only one is powered, depending on the active CPU). I don't see a reason why this would not work with two diagnostic repeaters. A possible setup i belive that could work, is as follows: Connect each CPU to the segmentDP1, with DP1 terminated. And connect the TP to both segment DP2 of the repeaters. And power only one repeater. But I agree with the comment that you could try without repeater at all as suggested.

I would ask the same question that have been asked but in a different way, Why would you pay for (Lose) repeaters while you can solve the problem without them? I also think that diagnostic repeaters would work but they are completely designed for different task. They have much more features than what you can get from any RS485 repeater. Diagnostic repeaters are made to work not to be switched off (Relayed). I don't recommendwaste such precious repeater for such solution. Best regards. H-H
