User Defined Data Types

DLittlejohn412 Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	Hello All What is the method to create a user defined data type in S7, that is similar Allen-Bradley Logix processor family / Logix5000? I am an Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation verteran, however still very new to Siemens. I would like to create a user defined data type that I can then use to buid tags/symbols within my PLC program. I would like the sub-parts of the data type to be the same in all of the new symbols I create from the type. For example, in AB, one creates a user defined data type of "Valve" The data type then has the following components within it 1. SV - BOOL - soleniod valve output 2. LSO - BOOL - limit switch open 3. LSC - BOOL - limit switch closed 4. ALM - BOOL - valve alarm. Then the symbols are created against the "Valve" data type. I.e. "Water_Inlet". So now there is a tag called "Water_Inlet" of data type "Valve" and within that, the tags are Water_Inlet.SV, Water_Inlet.LSO, Water_Inlet.LSC, and Water_Inlet.ALM. Many more tags can be created of type "Valve", all of which then recieve the same sub-tags. Then, the data type "Valve" needs a new sub-tag, (i.e. MAN - BOOL - manual mode) the data type can be editied, and all tags created with the "Valve" data type are updated to now include the .MAN tag as well. Does this type of function exist in Siemens? Thank you for any help on this topic. David Littlejohn

Structure of a User-Defined Data Type When you open a user-defined data type, a new working window is displayed showing the declaration view of this user-defined data type in table form. The first and the last row already contain the declarations STRUCT and END_STRUCT for the start and the end of the user-defined data type. You cannot edit these rows. You edit the user-defined data type by typing your entries in from the second row of the declaration table in the respective columns. You can structure user-defined data types from: Elementary data types Complex data types Existing user-defined data types The user-defined data types in the S7 user program are not downloaded to the S7 CPU.
