So i am working on my first Step 7(TIA Portal) Project(which takes an RSLOGIX5000 project already fully built and currently being used in the field and convert it to S7-1500) and I have hit a small roadblock. In the RSLOGIX5000, There is a pre-defined data-type of PID which the previous engineer used to make 7 variables(tags) out of. However, looking through the Step 7 library and reading online, I have not found a clear hint on if there is pre-defined data-type of PID in Step 7. 

My question is, can I make my own data-type of PID copying the structure of the PID data-type from RSLOGIX5000? Because I am new to control system's programming(coming from background of Web Engineering/development) I am wondering if pre-defined data-types have "behind-the-scenes algorithm" that keeps all the local-variables of the PID structure in RSLOGIX5000 toegther?

Sorry for the bad explanation, as you can see, I am having quite a difficult time understanding pre-defined datatypes. Please provide some good explanation on if i can simply just copy the structure of the PID data-type from RSLOGIX500 and build it in TIA PORTAL S7-1500.

I have also attached a snippet of what the PID datatype looks like in RSLogix5000

create a new data type.  add all the fields that are in the logix tag you have there. 

create a new db and add an entry using the new data type you just created.

i attached some examples, i didnt bother adding all of the fields, you'll get the point.

now you have the same structure as you had in the RSL program.

Alright, So i have done that already however, I think my problem is using the data type that i have created for PID control in S7-1500. That is where I am confused. When i want to a a pid control in s7-1500, is my data type valid for use? 

IF i use a PID_COmpact of PID_Temperature in S7-1500, will my own data type work for the block?
