I'm a newcomer here on the forums, and to Siemens automation in general. Hopefully my question makes sense.

I have a small servo that I'm controlling with an S7-1200 PLC over Profinet. Here's my problem: If power is cycled to the servo, the PLC will not connect to it unless power is cycled to the PLC OR I click "Assign Name" in TIA Portal (see screenshot). I'd like to find a way to solve this problem without needing to cycle power to the PLC or connect to the machine with TIA Portal.

There may be better ways of doing this, but my idea is to create an FC (or any bit of logic, really) that will re-assign the device name when a button is pressed on the HMI. Is this possible? How would one go about doing this?

The setup of this machine will occasionally involve power being lost to the servo, and cycling power to the machine to restore connectivity to the servo would be a pain.

your problem is very strange since when you assign the profinet name "manually" then that name is taken "forever" and I dont think exists a software command to assign such name because that device (if has a wrong name) won't be accessible.

Did you put the correct IP and is it unique ?

Maybe your device automatically erases the pn name ?

There is an option to permanently assign the name and not worry with this nonsense.  Choose that option and move on!

Then it is better to talk with small servo's manufacturer because it's not normal that a device loses a profinet name, unless it is invalid or something else is assigning it automatically.

Are you sure that PN name is Cleared ? Maybe it is a different dafault name ?

What about IP address  ?

What crap things ...

It is obvious that when one writes PN name it must stay in flash...

Same happens for other devices of Festo... And it really makes you angry....

 Thank you for the suggestion; I unchecked that box when I first started on this project, and it did fix some problems, but this problem still remains. I just verified that the box is still unchecked. 

I think perhaps there is another issue going on that re-assigning a name happens to fix. Perhaps something on a lower level that I haven't learned about yet.

Use the MacTalk software and uncheck that box, save to flash.

Thank you so much for taking the time to not only look up the manual but also the section containing relevant information. Unfortunately, I've already spent a few hours going over this manual, and nothing is adding up. The Profinet name seems to be cleared upon cycling power, which it shouldn't. Perhaps there is another problem I haven't yet identified.
